Building work is now underway on a major new development in West Denton, which will feature brand new homes for private sale and rent, as well as the construction of shared living accommodation for people with learning disabilities or autism.

Housing and community regeneration specialist, Keepmoat, is working in partnership with Newcastle City Council and Leazes Homes to deliver the multi-purpose site at Dunblane Crescent on derelict land, which previously housed council flats.

Work starts on new homes in West Denton

Keepmoat will build 95 two, three and four bedroom apartments, houses and bungalows, of which 77 will be for sale.  The other 18 homes will be available for affordable rent to people over 55 years of age.    Additionally the development will include three five bedroom apartments with communal facilities for people with learning disabilities or autism.

Richard Bass, regional managing director for Keepmoat in the North East, said: “The core of our business model is to seek out brownfield sites or unused land; then create a tailored approach to investing in those areas, by identifying exactly what is required for residents.

“As well as supported accommodation for people with learning disabilities and autism; we will be offering a varied mix of attractive new homes that will cater for renters and first time buyers; right through to expanding families looking for that forever home.  This will provide real solutions for Newcastle residents at all ends of the property ladder.

“As with all of our projects in the area, we will also be looking to employ a local workforce, while ensuring we provide apprenticeship and training opportunities for local people.

“We truly believe that Dunblane Crescent will be an exemplar of how partnership working can make a real difference to local communities beyond the provision of new homes”

Councillor Ged Bell, Cabinet Member for Investment and Development said “This development demonstrates Newcastle City Council’s commitment to delivering high quality housing for all.

“Newcastle is a diverse city and by working in partnership with Keepmoat and Leazes Homes this site will offer a range of housing options, including supported accommodation that will help meet the diverse needs of Newcastle’s residents”

Bill Midgley, Chair of Leazes Homes, said: “Leazes Homes has a strong track record of working with Newcastle City Council and Keepmoat to deliver specialist housing and we are proud to be working in partnership once again on this important development. We are committed to offering the best possible housing to everyone who lives in our city and the eighteen new properties we’ll be providing here at affordable rent will make fantastic homes.”

Work on Dunblane Crescent is expected to progress over the next three years.
