The children with Janice Gallagher and representatives of Barratt Homes

Children from Thomas Walling Primary School in Blakelaw have visited Barratt Homes’ City Edge development to bury a time capsule filled with items that they feel epitomise their local area. They were joined by Janice Gallagher from Leazes Homes, as we will also have some properties on the site.

The capsule included various images and stories about the local area, which was buried this week at the former Blakewell School site, where Barratt’s City Edge development has just launched.

The pupils, aged between 6 and 11, have spent the last few weeks drawing pictures and collecting photographs of the local area, as well as writing about what the area is like in 2016 to give a little piece of history to whoever finds it in the future. Pupils from the school were then invited to City Edge on Firfield Road to help bury the capsule with the Site Manager, Gavin Morgan.

Gavin Morgan, Site Manager at City Edge, commented:

“It was great for the children from Thomas Walling Primary School to visit our development and bury pieces of history for future generations to find! A key focus for Barratt Homes is to nurture the communities in which we build our developments. Blakelaw has a wealth of local history, where we want to encourage our residents and the wider community to contribute to the continuing story of the area.”
